Winter Classic “Rally Sarma 2026” opens entries with spectacular Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2

One of the oldest rally events in the Baltic States – the winter classic Rally Sarma 2026 – has published its supplementary regulations and officially opened competitor registration one month ahead of the Latvian Rally Championship’s second round, which will take place on 7 February in Gulbene Municipality. Interest became evident already in the very first minutes, as brothers Ivars and Andris Velmes announced their participation, planning to start their 2026 season at Rally Sarma with the crowd-favourite Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2. These will also be the first winter rally starts for the crew with this particular car.

Rally Sarma 2026 to Be the Longest in the Past Five Years. (Rally Guide)

One of the oldest rally events in the Baltics, Rally Sarma, widely recognised as one of the most traditional winter rallies in the region, has returned to a gradual increase of special stage mileage following the celebration of its 50th anniversary last year. Rally Sarma 2026, scheduled for 7 February, will see competitors tackle nearly 98 kilometres of special stages, making it the longest edition of the event in the past five years. At the same time, the organisers — Gulbene Auto-Moto — continue to combine the increased distance with the popular one-day rally format appreciated by both competitors and spectators.

2026 Winter events of the Latvian Rally Championship announced

The Rally Commission of the Latvian Automobile Federation has approved the first two events scheduled to take place in the coldest period of 2026. Next year's season will begin with two winter rallies – the new season will start on January 23-24, when the rally "Alūksne" will take place, and is set to continue on February 7, when the traditional winter rally "Sarma" will take place in Gulbene.
